CIVIL AVIATION ORDERS
PERMISSION TO FLY OVER A PUBLIC GATHERING
I, MATTHEW JOHN ANDERSON, a delegate of CASA, under subregulation 156 (1) of the Civil Aviation Regulations 1988, give permission for aircraft taking part in the RAAF Museum Interactive Flying Programs to fly at a height below 1,500 feet above ground level during flying exhibitions subject to the following conditions:
(a) an aircraft must not track or manoeuvre towards the spectators during the exhibitions:
(i) in the case of an aircraft with a maximum display speed of 100 knots or less and a maximum take-off weight of 5,700 kg or less ¾ within a horizontal distance of less than 150 metres;
(ii) in the case of an aircraft with a maximum display speed of between 101 knots and 200 knots and a maximum take-off weight of 5,700 kg or less ¾ within a horizontal distance of less than 350 metres;
(iii) in the case of an aircraft with a maximum display speed of 201 knots or more or a maximum take-off weight of more than 5,700 kg ¾ within a horizontal distance of less than 500 metres;
(b) an aircraft must not conduct a flypast within a horizontal distance from the spectators of less than 100 metres;
(c) an aircraft must not conduct manoeuvres (other than manoeuvres referred to in paragraph (a) or (b)) as follows:
(i) in the case of an aircraft with a maximum display speed of 100 knots or less and a maximum take-off weight of 5,700 kg or less ¾ within a horizontal distance from the spectators of less than 100 metres;
(ii) in the case of an aircraft with a maximum display speed of between 101 knots and 300 knots and a maximum take-off weight of 5,700 kg or less ¾ within a horizontal distance from the spectators of less than 250 metres;
(iii) in the case of an aircraft with a maximum display speed of 301 knots or more or a maximum take-off weight of more than 5,700 kg ¾ within a horizontal distance from the spectators of less than 350 metres; and
(d) in all other respects, an aircraft taking part in an exhibition must comply with the requirements of section 29.4 of the Civil Aviation Orders.
In this instrument, flypast means wings level flight by an aircraft, not in close formation, parallel to or moving away from the line of the spectators, and with a rate of climb or descent no greater than 500 feet per minute.
This instrument:
(a) comes into effect on 1 July 2003; and
(b) stops having effect at the end of June 2006.
